Cannabis and its main intoxicant THC act on the endocannabinoid system. Moderate-quality evidence supports use for chronic and neuropathic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and multiple-sclerosis spasticity, and it is widely used recreationally for its psychoactive effects. Risks include dependence, impaired memory and attention while intoxicated, and — particularly with frequent, high-THC use in adolescence — increased risk of psychosis and cannabis use disorder.
